I was tasked with redesigning the Admin component of SS&C Technologies’ Chorus BPM system to enhance the user experience and provide a more modern look and feel. The primary challenge was that the existing robust legacy data could not be rebuilt from the ground up. However, by conducting a thorough assessment of taxonomies and optimizing user flows, significant improvements could be achieved, along with a fresh CSS reface to modernize the interface.
The following screenshot displays a card sorting exercise conducted for the User Admin UI to evaluate and optimize the labeling and user flow structure. The card sorting method, based on UX principles, was utilized to gather insights into how users naturally categorize and perceive key administrative functions, ensuring an intuitive and efficient navigation experience. Each card represents a distinct UI element or feature, grouped according to user expectations and task relevance. This process aids in refining the interface’s information architecture, improving usability, and aligning the system with user mental models for better accessibility and discoverability.
The following is a preliminary high level mockup with a new modern look and feel mockup featuring color-coded tags that indicate where engineers can locate the backend data sources corresponding to each attribute.
